Let me say up front a couple of things about this matcha latte “recipe”. First, I’m not sure if it technically qualifies as a recipe since there are only 2 ingredients, and you may end up altering the proportions of those ingredients to suit your taste preference.
Secondly, this could be considered either a matcha green tea latte (using coconut milk instead of dairy) OR a matcha green tea “au lait” (like café au lait), depending on how much froth and foam you get from your matcha, and how much coconut milk you ultimately add to suit your taste.
It doesn’t really matter what you call this matcha coconut latte though, because once you try it, you will hopefully just call it your new favorite!
So here we go… if you are just now giving matcha green tea a try, this is one of the very first things I would recommend trying after you initiate yourself to pure matcha. And if you tried matcha and didn’t like it, but you like coconut milk, then I double dare you to give this a try and I bet you will enjoy!
The natural light sweetness of matcha green tea goes SO PERFECTLY with the creamy fullness of the coconut milk that I can’t resist using (and emphatically believing) the phrase a MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN!!!! You might even hallucinate angels floating around you this is such a heavenly drink. Well, not really (and please don’t take seriously the idea that this drink will make you hallucinate anything at all!) but I think you get the point I’m trying to make which is basically, TRY THIS! You might LOVE it!!
Now for the recipe…. Click on the tabs below for ingredients and directions.
Only two!!
6-8 oz prepared matcha green tea (how to make matcha green tea)
2 oz coconut milk per 6 oz matcha green tea (make sure to shake/mix the coconut milk first)
(Helpful reminder: 1 oz = 2 tablespoons)
For a 6 ounce cup of prepared matcha green tea, add about 2 ounces coconut milk. If you have an 8 ounce cup of tea, add about 2.5 ounces of coconut milk (by the way, 2 tablespoons= 1 ounce).
This doesn’t have to be an exact science though– when I first tried this I experimented with the proportions starting with half tea, half coconut milk but that mixture seemed more like drinking coconut milk so I backed off to about 1/3 coconut milk, 2/3 tea and that seems about right to me.
The point is not to be perfectly exact, but to experiment and figure out how much coconut milk you like in your matcha because the combination is perfect at whatever ratio suits you best.
Enjoy!
